With just a few hours to go to the conclusion of the race, which may well go down in history, overall victory looks increasingly likely to be on its way to the 25-year old skipper Tom Laperche. He is well known for his ability to sail quickly and clearly has a lot of tactical skills, choosing the right options and in spite of his young age, appears to remain calm in the face of adversity. The position of the chaser or boat in front does not seem to worry him. Before the start in Royan, he admitted that he was able to adapt to any situation without getting too worried about what to do. Above all, he wanted to make the most of his experience gained at high speed aboard François Gabart’s Ultim multihull. So it is no surprise that this young Figaro talent, who has twice made it to the podium during his three attempts, is giving it his all with his sails ballooning out thanks to his ambitions. At around lunchtime, the skipper nicknamed La Porsche in the world of Figaro racers, put his foot down. Approaching the finish, he is pushing his one-design boat hard and with each position report is widening the gap over those chasing after him.
